If you’re searching for homes for sale in Mineral Wells, TX, a little known fun fact is the movie “Three Days in August,” which was partially filmed in Mineral Wells is now showing in Studio Movie Grill theatres across the U.S.

The independent film is based on the true story of Dallas artist, Shannon Kincaid, and how she was adopted, finds her birth parents and brings everyone together to meet.

“I was given up for adoption as a baby, and so I lived my life with my number one identity being an adopted child,” Kincaid said. “That really forms your identity. The second thing I think about myself is I am an artist.”

The movie gets its name from a portion of Kincaid’s story, after deciding to search for her birth parents she had to search through a lot of different channels but in the end it didn’t take her very long to find her mother.

“I found my mother in three days. I had to go to the Austin Texas State Archives,” Kincaid said.

The film features seasoned actors like Barry Bostwick, Mariette Hartley and Meg Foster.

“I am really excited. It is really a culmination of a quick year-plus on this film, which is a really quick gestation and quick production for a film,” executive producer and director, Jonathan Brownlee, said. “We have a bigger release than most (independent) films get, so it is fabulous.”

One of the locations filmed in Mineral Wells was at the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells and even a few locals were casted as extras in the film like Don Owens, the church’s organist.

The church was a last minute selection and was used to film a funeral scene which required an organist.

“They said can you be here in an hour? Just wear some funeral clothes,” Owens said.

Most of the filming for the movie was shot northwest of Mineral Wells on a ranch formerly known as Double J Ranch. The cast and crew all lived at the ranch during the filming.

“There are really some pretty performances in it, it is beautifully shot and it tells a great story,” Brownlee said. “It is a mature story so I think that audiences will appreciate it.”
